Gurgaon Battles Pollution: Potholes & Industries Targeted
3 Mar
Summary
- Pothole repairs mandated within 48 hours to combat dust pollution.
- Illegal tyre units and polluting industries face strict enforcement.
- Particulate matter levels aim for 15-20% reduction by 2026.

Gurgaon's Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has issued a 48-hour deadline for the repair of city potholes, a move aimed at curbing dust pollution and enhancing civic infrastructure. This directive was part of a broader action plan discussed in a meeting focused on air pollution control, also involving Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) officials.
Authorities are instructed to crack down on illegal tyre recycling operations, polluting industries, and construction sites violating environmental laws. Inspections will target industries operating without essential clearances, with non-compliant units facing shutdown. The traffic police are tasked with developing decongestion plans for major traffic points and toll plazas.
The city has set an ambitious target to decrease particulate matter levels by 15% to 20% by 2026. To support this, 30 truck-mounted anti-smog guns are being expedited, and a goal of 100% road paving is set for October 2027. The MCG also plans to enhance road sweeping and waste management, involving women's self-help groups and promoting a circular economy.
Further initiatives include developing the remaining ponds in the municipal area before the monsoon and launching citywide awareness campaigns on waste segregation and sustainable practices. Various departments, including PWD and NHAI, have been asked to submit phased action plans for the coming years to ensure coordinated implementation of these pollution control measures.
