26 May
Summary
- Five busy Gurgaon traffic junctions are being beautified and greened.
- Work includes plantation, landscaping, and green belt restoration.
- Upgrades aim to combat urban heat and improve air quality.

GMDA is actively engaged in beautifying and greening five major traffic junctions across Gurgaon, including Mahavir Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, Jharsa Chowk, and Kanhai Chowk. These areas, known for heavy vehicular traffic and susceptibility to pollution, are undergoing transformation ahead of the monsoon season, with all beautification work scheduled for completion by June 15.
The metropolitan authority is implementing a multi-faceted approach, involving plantation drives, landscaping, the creation of green pockets, and the fencing of green belts to prevent encroachment. Notably, Mahavir Chowk is set to feature a Miyawaki forest, a fast-growing urban plantation model designed to boost greenery and provide a natural buffer against heat and pollution. Additionally, GMDA is restoring nearly 45km of road-side green belts city-wide, clearing debris to improve stormwater drainage during the monsoon.
These interventions are part of a broader strategy to create more resilient, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing public spaces. The efforts are expected to improve the overall commuter experience while contributing to the city's environmental health by improving air quality and mitigating rising temperatures.
