Gurgaon Garbage Fleet Revamps: 875 New Vehicles Rolling Out

Summary

  • 875 new vehicles will join Gurgaon's waste collection fleet by November 15.
  • Two agencies, Delhi MSW Solutions and BVG India, secured five-year contracts.
  • Over 12,000 challans issued for sanitation violations this year.

Gurgaon's Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is set to fully implement a new door-to-door garbage collection system, commencing with 100 vehicles from Wednesday and progressively adding 775 more by November 15. This transition ensures uninterrupted waste management services, maintaining the current interim arrangement until the new fleet is operational. The enhanced system will utilize 875 vehicles, including light commercial vehicles, e-rickshaws, and compactors, for efficient waste collection and transportation.

This significant upgrade follows MCG's termination of its contract with Ecogreen Energy in June 2024 due to alleged poor performance, leading to reliance on temporary solutions. In August, the Haryana government approved contracts for two agencies: Delhi MSW Solutions Ltd for Cluster 1 (worth Rs 327 crore) and BVG India Ltd for Cluster 2 (worth Rs 320 crore), each for five years with a possible two-year extension.

Review meetings have also focused on broader environmental initiatives, including strengthening road cleaning, water sprinkling to combat dust pollution, and expediting waste processing at the Bandhwari landfill. As of October 20, over 4.29 million metric tonnes of legacy waste have been processed at Bandhwari. Concurrently, MCG has issued 12,914 challans totaling approximately Rs 2.68 crore for sanitation and pollution control violations between January 1 and October 23, reflecting a strong enforcement drive.
