Summary
- Guntur Municipal Corporation targets 30,000 stray dogs for sterilization.
- Daily surgeries to increase from 60 to 100 with new infrastructure.
- Designated feeding spots planned for each city ward to manage dogs.

The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has significantly increased its focus on managing the city's stray dog population. Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok directed officials on March 23, 2026, to accelerate Animal Birth Control (ABC) surgeries.
Officials estimate that approximately 30,000 stray dogs require sterilization. The GMC is enhancing its capacity, aiming to perform 100 surgeries daily, up from the current 50-60, by improving infrastructure and utilizing a new ABC center on Ponnur Road.
In addition to sterilization, anti-rabies vaccinations will be administered. Dogs will then be released back to their original locations, adhering to Supreme Court guidelines. The GMC also plans to create designated feeding areas in each ward, guiding the public to feed dogs only at these specified spots.
