11 Mar
Summary
- New initiative monitors lake health and air quality in real-time.
- Satellite technology will analyze lake areas and algae growth.
- Air quality stations in 17 municipal corporations will provide AQI.

The Gujarat Urban Development Mission is set to launch the 'Lake and Air Watch' initiative to monitor and enhance the health of urban lakes and the air quality within cities. This program is designed to address environmental degradation caused by rapid urbanization.
The initiative will employ satellite technology to analyze lake conditions, including area, waste presence, and algae growth, issuing alerts for conservation efforts. Simultaneously, air quality monitoring stations will be deployed in 17 municipal corporations and 152 municipal areas. These stations will provide real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) data and trigger automatic alerts for elevated pollution levels.
A centralized state-level dashboard will consolidate data, offering maps, trends, and operational status to improve interdepartmental coordination. This integrated digital platform, with an estimated provision of Rs 10 crore, aims to foster sustainable urban development and robust environmental protection across Gujarat.
