Wildlife officials in Gujarat successfully rescued three lions from wells in separate incidents across Amreli and Gir Somnath districts. The rescues, which occurred on Tuesday, involved two adult lionesses and a young cub.
One lioness fell into an empty well at Babarkot in Amreli late Tuesday night. Forest personnel initiated a rescue operation and safely retrieved the big cat by Wednesday morning. She was transferred to an animal care center and will be released back into the wild once deemed fit by veterinarians.
In another incident, a lioness aged 3-4 years fell into a water-filled farm well while pursuing prey in Virpur village, also in Amreli. This feline was also rescued and taken to an animal care facility for assessment and care.
Additionally, a two-month-old male lion cub dropped into a well on a farm in Bodidar, Gir Somnath district. This cub was found, treated at the Jasadhar Animal Care Centre, and thankfully reunited with its mother on Tuesday night.
