- Survey aims to shape a draft Marine Spatial Plan for the marine environment.
- Plan covers waters up to 12 nautical miles, about 10 times landmass.

Guernsey's Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure is inviting the public to contribute their views on the future of the island's territorial waters. This consultation aims to gather insights into what these waters mean to residents, how they are currently used, and potential future applications. The collected information will be instrumental in drafting a comprehensive Marine Spatial Plan.
This forthcoming plan intends to establish a long-term vision for Guernsey's marine environment. Deputy Sally Rochester highlighted the survey's goal to balance diverse needs, including those of the public, boaters, fishers, and developers. The plan's scope will encompass Guernsey's territorial waters extending up to 12 nautical miles offshore, including waters around Herm, covering approximately 700 sq miles.
This survey represents the first of two opportunities for public engagement. Additional workshops and focus groups are scheduled with specific community segments in the upcoming weeks. Deputy Rochester emphasized the significant untapped potential within these waters, stressing that community input is vital for benefiting the island now and in the future. The survey is set to close on Friday, June 12.
