Summary
- Artist Antony Gormley calls proposed solar farm "cruel and destructive."
- The 2,800-acre development is planned for farmland near Swaffham, Norfolk.
- Developers say the project will power 115,000 homes for up to 60 years.

Artist Antony Gormley has voiced strong opposition to a massive solar farm proposed for farmland near Swaffham, Norfolk. Gormley, who owns property in the vicinity, characterized the 2,800-acre development as "cruel and destructive beyond belief." He submitted his concerns to the Planning Inspectorate, labeling the project a "massive industrial development."
Island Green Power (IGP), the developer behind the Droves site, states they are receptive to community feedback. IGP asserts that the proposed solar farm, measuring about 1,500 football pitches, will generate up to 500 megawatts of electricity. This capacity is sufficient to power approximately 115,000 homes annually for a duration of up to 60 years.
Gormley and his wife, Vicky Parsons, have submitted objections, emphasizing their support for green energy but arguing that this specific plan constitutes a "profit grab" that damages a cherished rural landscape. Their submissions describe the area as a "precious, tucked-away corner of England."
