St Anne's Parish in Curti, Ponda, has embraced a tree plantation drive, turning the state's call for monsoon planting into an occasion for community bonding. The forest department and Goa State Biodiversity Board provided over 1,500 indigenous saplings for distribution and planting along highways. The church encouraged parishioners to plant one tree at home and gift a second sapling to Hindu or Muslim neighbors, fostering interreligious harmony.
The "Canopy Project" and "Franciscan Green Homes Initiative" were launched on World Environment Day 2026, coinciding with the 8th centenary of St Francis of Assisi's Transitus. Over 1,560 plants were distributed across various community groups, including Hindu and Muslim organizations. More than 1,120 parishioners committed to planting and sharing trees, promoting friendship and mutual respect.
A large-scale plantation drive, supported by the GSBB, resulted in nearly 800 saplings being planted along the highway from Farmagudi to Usgao and near Khandepar Chapel. Agriculturist Miguel Braganza advised involving children in planting and provided practical guidance on tree maintenance. The initiative aims to translate environmental concern into tangible action.
