WWF India is spearheading an initiative to document Goa's diverse butterfly population throughout September. Six educational institutions, including Goa University and Carmel College, will actively participate in this month-long butterfly monitoring program. Students and enthusiasts will document species on their campuses and surroundings, uploading observations to the iNaturalist platform to create a valuable citizen-science database.
This initiative, part of the Big Butterfly Month, aims not only to count species but also to highlight the importance of conserving butterfly habitats amidst urban development. Following the butterfly drive, WWF India will conduct a similar dragonfly diversity monitoring in October, focusing on prominent wetlands across Goa.
