Since its inception in 2020, the operation has diverted more than 3 million pounds of glass from landfills. The recycled glass, primarily silica, serves as a crucial material for rebuilding the state's vanishing wetlands. Researchers are testing the recycled glass sand for its safety and efficacy in wetland restoration. Early results indicate that marsh grasses are successfully growing around the material, reinforcing new habitats. This effort aims to slow erosion, trap sediment, and restore vital ecological functions.
