27 Aug
Summary
- A nearly 14-foot king cobra was found in a family's courtyard.
- Forest Department teams safely removed the large venomous snake.
- Habitat fragmentation can increase human-wildlife encounters.
In Vithura, India, a family experienced a frightening encounter when a nearly 14-foot-long king cobra was found concealed within their courtyard's vegetation. Promptly contacting the Forest Department, the family received assistance from a specialized team led by Roshni. The cobra was safely captured and prepared for release back into its natural habitat.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the growing overlap between human development and wildlife territories. As natural habitats shrink due to settlement and infrastructure, encounters between people and wild animals become more probable. Roshni's team has a history of such rescues, including another 14-foot king cobra retrieved from a well and a roughly 15-foot cobra secured rapidly near Peppara Dam.
