A colossal ancient cedar, potentially one of the largest ever recorded, has been discovered off the coast of Vancouver Island by nature photographer TJ Watt. This magnificent tree, nicknamed 'The Wall,' is believed to be over 1,000 years old.
Measuring an impressive 151 feet tall and 17.5 feet in diameter, 'The Wall' is a remarkable specimen of an old-growth cedar. Watt, a co-founder of the Ancient Forest Alliance, decided with the Ahousaht First Nation to withhold the tree's precise location.
This decision was made to protect the sensitive environment from potential damage and over-tourism. Despite its protected status, 80% of Vancouver Island's original old-growth forests have already been logged, highlighting the critical need to preserve such natural wonders.
