30 May
Summary
- Park uses coolers and sprinklers to combat extreme heat.
- Animal diets modified with reduced portions and cooling fruits.
- Veterinarians provide supplements to prevent heatstroke.

Indroda Nature Park has intensified its wildlife safety protocols due to severe heatwaves affecting Gandhinagar. Managed by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation, the park is implementing extensive measures to protect its over 600 animals.
Fifteen jumbo coolers and twenty water sprinklers have been deployed across the park, successfully reducing enclosure temperatures by up to 4 degrees Celsius. These cooling systems will remain operational until the monsoon season begins.
Veterinarians have also revised the daily diets for the animals to ensure their health during the extreme heat. The food portions for carnivorous animals have been reduced by 500 grams to 1 kilogram, depending on their needs, to prevent digestive issues.
To maintain hydration, cooling fruits such as watermelon, muskmelon, and cucumber have been added to the diets of both animals and birds. Herbivorous animals are receiving oral rehydration powder rich in Vitamin-C, along with multi-mineral and vitamin supplements to guard against heatstroke and electrolyte imbalances.
