Food Waste Caddies Rolling Out Across Coventry & Warwickshire
10 Jun
Summary
- Weekly food waste collections start in Coventry in September.
- North Warwickshire begins weekly collections on 6 July.
- Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick already have separate food waste collections.

New food waste caddies are being distributed across Coventry and Warwickshire, implementing the government's Simpler Recycling scheme. Coventry City Council will begin weekly collections from September 7, with caddies delivered to households over the summer. This initiative aims to turn food scraps into renewable energy and fertilizer.
North Warwickshire Borough Council is launching its weekly food waste collections on July 6, with services fully funded by the government. Rugby plans to start collections in July, having already provided residents with free caddies since May. Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick districts currently collect food waste separately, utilizing an anaerobic digestion plant to generate electricity.
While the new service is mandatory, some councils faced delays due to vehicle demand and funding issues, missing the initial March 31 government deadline. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has not yet confirmed a start date but anticipates collections by October. Residents are advised to contact their local council for specific delivery and collection information.
