Fidelity Plants Urban Forest to Combat Climate Change
6 May
Summary
- 15,000 native saplings planted to create a dense urban forest.
- The Miyawaki forest aims to absorb 250-280 tonnes of CO2 annually.
- A three-year maintenance plan ensures over 95% sapling survival.

Fidelity International has initiated the creation of a high-density Miyawaki forest in Gurugram, Haryana. The project involves planting 15,000 indigenous saplings across 11,873 square metres at the Dhankot pond area.
This initiative utilizes the Miyawaki method, focusing on dense planting of native species to accelerate growth and create self-sustaining urban ecosystems. Once mature, the forest is expected to absorb 250 to 280 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, provide localized cooling of 2 to 3°C, and improve air quality.
The plantation, developed with CATCH Foundation, features over 30 native tree species. Fidelity International and CATCH Foundation have committed to a three-year structured maintenance program, including watering and soil care, to ensure over 95% sapling survival.
Employee volunteer programs, such as Adopt-a-Tree, are also integrated to foster engagement and awareness. This project underscores Fidelity International's commitment to corporate social responsibility and ecological restoration.
