Tiger Kills Farmer in Mysuru, Prompting Safari Suspension

On November 4, 2025, a 35-year-old farmer named Chowda Naika was attacked and killed by a tiger while working in his maize field in Mysuru's Hale Heggudilu village. This incident marks the third fatal tiger attack in less than a month in the Saragur taluk region.

According to forest officials, the tiger dragged Naika's body about 25 meters from the initial attack site, near an elephant-proof trench, and partially devoured it. Deeply concerned by the repeated incidents, Karnataka's Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has immediately ordered the suspension of all safari and trekking activities in the Nagarhole and Bandipur national parks until the tiger responsible is safely captured.

The minister emphasized that safeguarding human life is the top priority, stating that no further safaris or treks will be permitted in the affected zones until the situation is under control. This decision comes after two other fatal tiger attacks in the region earlier in October, which claimed the lives of Rajashekar and Doddaningaiah, both residents of the Moleyur forest area.

Locals have accused the forest department of failing to act on repeated alerts and tiger sightings, leading to the loss of three lives in just 20 days. The department has now intensified combing operations, deployed additional teams, and installed camera traps to monitor tiger movements in the area. Efforts are also ongoing to locate a cub that remains at large after the capture of the tiger responsible for the October 16 attack.
