Redding Cools Tuesday, But Summer Heat Lingers Nationwide
1 Sep
Summary
- Redding temperatures will drop into the 70s and 80s starting Tuesday.
- Nationwide, above-average temperatures are expected through November.
- El Niño is forecast to be the dominant driver of fall weather patterns.

Redding is set to receive a respite from the heat starting Tuesday, with forecasts indicating afternoon temperatures in the 70s and 80s through September 7. This cooling trend is temporary, as 90-degree heat is anticipated to return by September 8 and persist into mid-month.
Nationwide, the summer's record-breaking heat is expected to extend into the fall season. The Climate Prediction Center forecasts above-average temperatures for most of the contiguous United States from September through November, largely influenced by a strengthening El Niño.
This El Niño is also expected to bring significant precipitation to the southern tier of the nation, while the Northwest may continue to experience wildfire risks into early fall. Snowfall might be delayed in some western regions, with increased chances in the Rockies later in the season.
Drought conditions are a concern in the Southwest, although some relief is possible. Conversely, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may face intensifying drought due to suppressed rainfall.
