6 Aug
Summary
- Top hunter captured 96 invasive Burmese pythons in the Everglades.
- This year's challenge saw 907 participants from multiple countries.
- Over 1,600 pythons removed from the area since the event began.

The annual Florida Python Challenge concluded with Tom Rahill securing the top prize by capturing 96 Burmese pythons. This event, a critical initiative to manage invasive species in the Everglades, involved 907 participants from 30 US states, Canada, and Vietnam over 10 days in July. A total of 280 snakes were removed during the competition period.
Burmese pythons, native to Southeast Asia, have significantly impacted the Everglades ecosystem since the 1990s, decimating native wildlife populations. The challenge aims to raise public awareness and involve the community in conservation efforts. Since 2017, the FWC and its partners have removed over 19,000 pythons, with the annual challenge contributing over 1,600 of those removals.
