A significant water supply disruption impacted approximately 10,000 households across parts of Essex and east London. The issue began on Saturday with a water main burst, followed by three additional incidents, leading to severe water shortages.
Residents in affected areas, including Loughton, Chigwell, and Walthamstow, experienced considerable difficulties. They resorted to using bottled water stations and purchasing supplies from shops for essential needs like drinking and hygiene.
Great British Bake Off alumna Pui Man, whose home was among those affected, described the experience as "terrible." Her residence in Chigwell Row was directly impacted by the prolonged outage.
Thames Water reported progress in resolving the crisis. By Wednesday, the utility company had successfully repaired three of the four broken water pipes. Efforts continued to fully restore water supply to all affected properties across the 14 impacted postcode areas.
