- Damage to Ennore Express Road prompts authorities to consider closing the seawall.

- Proposed seawall closure impacts fishermen's daily travel to fishing grounds.
- Residents propose adding boulders to protect road and preserve beach access.

Residents in Thazhangkuppam, Ennore, are actively campaigning to prevent the closure of a significant opening in their local seawall. This plea comes in the wake of recent damage to the Ennore Express Road, which has been temporarily reinforced by the Highways Department due to wave action eroding the road's foundation.
Officials are considering permanently sealing the seawall opening as a preventative measure against future road damage, pending Coastal Regulation Zone clearance. However, this proposed action has met strong opposition from the community. Fishermen state that the opening is vital for their daily fishing activities, allowing them to reach fishing grounds within 500 meters of their village.
Community members also highlight the opening's importance as a weekend beach access point for local residents. They suggest a compromise, proposing the addition of more boulders on either side of the opening to fortify the road and preserve beach access, thereby mitigating wave action and erosion effectively.
