Summary
- Wangalla, an elephant calf, and Bumpy, a hippo calf, have formed a unique bond.
- Both animals were rescued as infants by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
- The trust aims to prepare them for eventual release into the wild.

A heartwarming friendship has developed between Wangalla, an African elephant calf, and Bumpy, a young hippo, at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Wangalla, rescued in November at approximately one week old, is now eight months old. Bumpy, a three-month-old hippo, joined the nursery in May after his own rescue.
These unlikely companions have become constant friends, enjoying activities like rolling in the dirt and napping together. Videos show them sharing playful moments, with Bumpy nudging Wangalla. Their bond provides comfort as they cope with losing their mothers.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's mission is to provide essential care until orphaned animals can be released into the wild. This journey requires significant time; elephant calves typically need 8 to 10 years of preparation, while hippos may be ready to reintegrate in 3 to 5 years. Until then, Wangalla and Bumpy can cherish their unique friendship.
