The Eden Project Morecambe has announced its centerpiece will be The Elder Tree, a multi-million pound immersive exhibit. This significant element of the project is made possible by a £4.5m donation from a charity lottery company fundraising for British charities. The 20m tall Elder Tree will guide guests through its structure, displaying memories of past ecosystems and offering insights into restoring nature.
The project, which includes landscaped gardens inspired by the coast and two shell-shaped domes, aims to celebrate Morecambe Bay's beauty and heritage. Groundworks for the 1.5-acre free-to-enter community gardens commence this summer. These gardens are scheduled to open in spring 2027, preceding the full Eden Project Morecambe experience planned for winter 2028.
Eden Project Morecambe is a collaborative effort involving Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, and Lancaster University, with support from UK government investment. The Elder Tree is anticipated to tell the story of humanity's evolving relationship with the natural world and inspire positive future visions.
