An £11m flood alleviation initiative is commencing in East Yorkshire, with the first phase scheduled to start on July 13. This initial project will focus on enhancing surface water drainage on Draper's Lane in Hedon, with an allocated budget of £2.5m.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has committed to additional flood defense schemes in Preston, Thorngumbald, and Burton Pidsea. These future projects, planned over the next 18 months, are subject to planning approvals. They represent significant investments: £3.4m for Preston, £3.1m for Thorngumbald, and £2.1m for Burton Pidsea.
Collectively, these schemes aim to mitigate flood risks for approximately 400 homes and businesses. The construction will involve building embankments, floodwalls, new watercourses, and implementing sustainable drainage measures to manage heavy rainfall and divert excess water.
