Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) has issued a stern public notice, targeting the ongoing illegal dumping and burning of plastic and solid waste. Despite previous advisories, these practices continue across the city, posing significant threats to public health and the environment through toxic fumes and microplastics.
The DMC commissioner has ordered strict adherence to waste management rules, prohibiting the open burning of any waste. Individuals, establishments, and agencies found disposing of or burning waste in public areas or vacant land will face penalties. Violators could be fined up to Rs 5,000 or face other legal actions.
Citizens and commercial entities are strongly advised to segregate their waste and deliver it exclusively to authorized waste collectors appointed by the DMC. The corporation also encourages the public to report instances of illegal dumping for prompt intervention, aiming for a collective effort towards a pollution-free Dibrugarh.
