22 Mar
Summary
- Four play areas in Derbyshire are reopening soon.
- Funding includes UK Shared Prosperity Fund and local contributions.
- Local consultations shaped new playground designs and features.

Four play areas across Derbyshire are nearing the completion of refurbishment programs and are anticipated to reopen by mid-April. The council cited potential weather delays and final safety inspections as factors influencing the exact reopening dates. Significant investment has been channeled into these projects, with funding sourced from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, managed by the East Midlands Combined County Authority, and a substantial £37,000 contribution from Belper Town Council.
The redevelopment process actively involved local residents, whose input was crucial in selecting preferred designs and shaping the overall enhancements. Beyond new playgrounds, the works encompass thermoplastic line markings for multi-use games areas and basketball courts, repainting existing equipment, surface improvements, and the installation of outdoor fitness apparatus at various locations.
Community wellbeing and inclusive play are central to the council's vision for these spaces. The authority is currently consulting on the next phase of improvements for Aldercar Recreation Ground and Waingroves Recreation Ground, indicating a continued commitment to enhancing public recreational facilities.
