MCD Boosts C&D Waste Centers for Cleaner Delhi Air
20 Oct
Summary
- All 125 secondary C&D waste centers are now operational.
- Free disposal of up to 20 metric tonnes of waste is offered.
- New multi-purpose vehicles combat pollution with anti-smog guns.
To combat rising air pollution levels this winter, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has activated all 125 secondary construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection centers. These centers are now equipped with signage, water-sprinkling systems, and 360-degree cameras to prevent illegal dumping.
MCD has increased the free waste disposal limit to 20 metric tonnes per generator, aiming to encourage proper C&D waste management. A mobile app facilitates waste removal requests, with collected waste transported to secondary sites or processing plants.
Delhi generates approximately 6,000 MT of C&D waste daily, processed at four plants into materials like sand and aggregates for civil works. Furthermore, the MCD has deployed 12 new multi-purpose vehicles fitted with anti-smog guns and water sprinklers to mitigate pollution and enhance road cleaning efforts.
