According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) in several areas of the city, including Lodhi Road, AIIMS, and Safdarjung Hospital, has exceeded 300, which is considered 'very poor'.
The primary pollutant contributing to the worsening conditions is PM 2.5, which has been fueled by stubble burning in neighboring states and increased transport emissions. Satellite data shows that on the previous day, there were 94 stubble-burning incidents detected in Punjab, 13 in Haryana, and 74 in Uttar Pradesh.
The situation is expected to further deteriorate in the coming days, as the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi predicts that wind speed will decrease to below 10 kmph from the northwest direction during the evening and night hours on November 7th. This unfavorable wind condition is likely to exacerbate the pollution levels in the national capital.
The air quality is forecast to remain in the 'very poor' category between November 6th and 8th, 2025, posing a significant health risk to the residents of Delhi and the surrounding regions.
