Delhi Zoo Jackal Death: Inquiry Finds No Burn Evidence

An internal inquiry at the Delhi Zoo has concluded that no evidence supports the allegation that an escaped jackal died after its burrow was set ablaze. The National Zoo Workers' Union had claimed that fire was used to lure the jackal out after it escaped its enclosure in November last year.
While the inquiry, conducted by the zoo's joint director, did not find evidence of the jackal dying by burning, it did highlight procedural irregularities. These included lapses in following protocols for animals found outside their enclosures and in maintaining proper records.
The findings have been shared with the Union Environment Ministry, which may take action. The union had previously alleged that the animal's body was retrieved without a formal post-mortem and that zoo rules and the Wildlife Protection Act were violated.
