Delhi witnessed a significant downpour on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the capital recording 61.4 mm of rainfall in the preceding 24 hours. This deluge marks the highest monthly rainfall since 2022 and the wettest October day in four years. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) responded by issuing a 'red' alert for the city, anticipating continued rain and thunderstorms.
The cumulative rainfall for October has now reached 123.3 mm, nearing the total recorded for the entire month in 2022. The IMD predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning, with the possibility of heavy showers in isolated areas. Various parts of Delhi, including central and south districts, were covered under the 'red' alert.
This substantial rainfall provided much-needed relief from air pollution, with Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) improving to the 'satisfactory' category. The weather brought cooler temperatures, with minimums settling around 17.2°C at Safdarjung, while the maximum temperature was expected to be around 27°C.
