Delhi Launches Massive Public Awareness Campaign Against Pollution
30 Aug
Summary
- Delhi plans a seven-month awareness campaign on pollution reduction.
- Workshops target vehicle owners, commercial operators, and students.
- Road dust, vehicle maintenance, and waste management are key focus areas.
Delhi has initiated a detailed seven-month Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) plan to significantly boost public awareness regarding pollution. This strategy, commencing in September 2026 and concluding in March 2027, involves targeted workshops and community programs.
The campaign will educate vehicle owners on issues like reducing idling, lane discipline, and timely servicing. Commercial operators, students, and general citizens will also participate in sessions covering the detrimental impacts of end-of-life vehicles. Seminars are scheduled for road-owning agencies to promote scientific road-dust management and prompt road repairs.
This extensive plan follows directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Urban local bodies will conduct weekly drives to discourage littering and promote reporting of road damage. Construction workers will receive monthly training on dust mitigation techniques.
