Delhi Parks to Get Treated Water Supply
21 Mar
Summary
- Consultant to design treated water network for DDA parks.
- Project aims to reduce groundwater reliance for irrigation.
- The plan includes STPs for wastewater treatment and reuse.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has issued a request for proposal to appoint a consultant for a significant water management project. This initiative focuses on establishing a treated wastewater supply network for the DDA's extensive network of parks and green spaces across the Capital. The project aims to reduce the current heavy reliance on groundwater for horticultural purposes.
The appointed consultant will be responsible for preparing a detailed project report (DPR), assessing water demand, and designing an integrated supply network. This will involve mapping existing water demand, planning pipelines, and developing measures for capturing and treating raw sewage through Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for reuse. The plan will also focus on minimizing water losses and improving irrigation efficiency.
This consultancy assignment has a 210-day timeline for the plan and DPR preparation. Following this, the execution phase, including infrastructure construction, is expected to take approximately one year. Once implemented, the project is projected to establish a sustainable irrigation system for DDA's nearly 750 parks, thereby significantly reducing groundwater extraction and promoting wastewater reuse, aligning with broader urban water management goals in a city facing recurring water stress.
