24 Feb
Summary
- RWAs can adopt MCD parks to manage maintenance and beautification.
- MCD will provide ₹13,500 per park for maintenance to RWAs.
- RWAs must be registered for three years and cannot use parks commercially.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) standing committee has approved a proposal allowing Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to adopt and maintain city parks. This initiative, slated for implementation under the 2026-27 budget, addresses the MCD's horticulture department's challenges with gardener shortages. Delhi has approximately 15,000 parks under MCD's purview.
Under this public-private partnership, RWAs that have been registered for at least three years can apply to adopt parks. They will receive maintenance charges of ₹13,500 per park from the MCD. Responsibilities will include weeding, pruning, waste removal, and landscaping, though significant changes require departmental approval.
