24 Feb
Summary
- RWAs can adopt MCD parks to manage maintenance and beautification.
- MCD will provide ₹13,500 per park for maintenance to RWAs.
- RWAs must be registered for three years and cannot use parks commercially.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) standing committee has approved a proposal allowing Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to adopt and maintain city parks. This initiative, slated for implementation under the 2026-27 budget, addresses the MCD's horticulture department's challenges with gardener shortages. Delhi has approximately 15,000 parks under MCD's purview.
Under this public-private partnership, RWAs that have been registered for at least three years can apply to adopt parks. They will receive maintenance charges of ₹13,500 per park from the MCD. Responsibilities will include weeding, pruning, waste removal, and landscaping, though significant changes require departmental approval.
RWAs are prohibited from using the adopted parks for commercial activities, making permanent structural alterations, or restricting public access. The MCD will continue to manage existing infrastructure, water and electricity costs, and provide compost where available. This policy aims to enhance the city's green spaces through community involvement.
