24 Apr
Summary
- Dust pollution complaints near Delhi Metro sites dropped significantly by 97% in early 2026.
- DMRC attributes the improvement to sustained dust mitigation and faster complaint redressal.
- Extensive measures include 82 anti-smog guns and 19 water tankers deployed.

Complaints regarding dust pollution from Delhi Metro construction sites and stations have fallen by 97% in the first four months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This reduction from 640 to 24 complaints signifies a major success for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) pollution control initiatives.
A DMRC official attributed the success to sustained dust mitigation efforts, enhanced monitoring, and an expedited complaint redressal system. In contrast to previous years, where complaints saw a steady rise, 2025 recorded 764 complaints, with 640 occurring between January 1 and April 20. The significant drop to 24 during the equivalent period in 2026 showcases the positive impact of these measures.
To combat dust, DMRC has implemented a comprehensive strategy, deploying 82 anti-smog guns and 19 water tankers at construction sites. Additionally, 30 anti-smog guns are installed on station rooftops, and mist spray systems operate at 131 stations. DMRC also strictly adheres to the Delhi government's 14-point dust pollution control charter.
Beyond dust suppression, DMRC is engaged in environmental restoration. Groundwater from underground station sites at Ghanta Ghar and Pul Bangash has been diverted to Roshanara Bagh Lake via pipelines, aiding its rejuvenation. Furthermore, Miyawaki plantations are being developed near the Najafgarh metro depot as part of the corporation's green initiatives.
