Delhi Metro Adds Trains as Pollution Stage 1 Triggers
21 Oct
Summary
- Delhi Metro is running 20 extra train trips on weekdays.
- Additional services began October 22 to combat pollution.
- Stage I of GRAP was activated due to 'poor' air quality.

To combat rising air pollution, Delhi Metro has increased its weekday train services by 20 trips starting October 22. This action aligns with the implementation of Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), triggered by the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) entering the 'poor' category. These additional services aim to encourage citizens to opt for public transportation over private vehicles, thereby helping to reduce emissions.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is also intensifying anti-pollution measures at its construction sites. These include dust reduction, road dust clearing, garbage removal, and ensuring construction materials are covered. Over 250 anti-smog and mist guns have been installed across sites and stations. Stage I of GRAP is invoked when Delhi's AQI is between 201 and 300, with schools and offices remaining operational under these curbs.
