The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a proactive winter action plan to tackle escalating pollution. Approximately 6,127 kilometers of roads under MCD's purview are subjected to regular manual sweeping by a workforce of 57,000.
Significant efforts are also being made in road reconstruction and repair. Work on end-to-end reconstruction and strengthening of 1,202 kilometers of roads is in progress. Furthermore, 6,797 potholes were repaired between April and August, enhancing road conditions.
Mechanized cleaning campaigns have been a focus since May 18, successfully removing accumulated dust and silt. To date, around 2,900 metric tons of silt have been cleared, and 1,200 kilometers of roads have undergone deep cleaning.
To enforce environmental regulations, MCD has formed joint enforcement teams. These teams will diligently monitor biomass burning, dust pollution from construction and demolition activities, the use of unauthorized fuels, and the illegal dumping or storage of C&D waste.
In coordination with concerned departments, air pollution sources at 46 hotspots identified by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) are being assessed. Deputy Commissioners are designated as nodal officers, supported by monitoring committees and cross-functional teams tasked with ensuring pollution-control measures are effectively implemented in these critical areas.
