18 Aug
Summary
- Existing canals and drains will be utilized for renewable energy generation.
- Greenfield areas will be used for agriculture-cum-solar farms.
- Government buildings must install solar panels on rooftops.

Delhi's Master Plan for 2047, approved by the Delhi Development Authority, outlines a significant push towards renewable energy. A key proposal involves utilizing existing canals and drains to generate solar and hydro energy, pending feasibility studies by concerned agencies.
The plan also promotes the use of greenfield areas for 'agriculture-cum-solar farm schemes'. Furthermore, bus depots and metro stations are expected to meet their power needs from renewable sources.
Government buildings and institutional campuses exceeding 500 sqm of rooftop space will be required to install solar panels, in alignment with the Delhi Solar Policy. The government is considering subsidies and incentives to lower the upfront costs for consumers installing solar plants.
Public facilities like airports, metro stations, and stadiums are also encouraged to progressively adopt solar and other renewable energy sources. The MPD-2047 also suggests a phased implementation of an underground transmission network across the city.
