Delhi Gets 600 EV Water Tankers to Curb Pollution

In a significant move towards technological governance and environmental accountability, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has sanctioned numerous projects. A total of 600 electric vehicle (EV)-mounted water tankers are to be deployed, enhancing water safety and curbing unregulated supply. Three hundred tankers will offer free water to residential areas, while the other 300 will serve commercial entities on a payment basis.

These advanced tankers will feature GPS tracking and app-based booking for citizen convenience. The transition to EVs also aims to cut down vehicular emissions. The DJB also approved scientific desilting and restoration of the Wazirabad barrage's pondage area, a project projected to earn the board ₹25 crore by selling the accumulated silt.

Further bolstering infrastructure, house sewer connections for four groups of colonies—Sangam Nagar, Ranhola, Wazirabad, and Begumpur—were cleared. These initiatives will establish around 200,000 new water connections, benefiting an estimated 125,000 residents by replacing open drains with a formal sewer network.

In line with Yamuna rejuvenation efforts, the Zindpur decentralized sewage treatment project (DSTP) received approval. This project includes a 15 MGD treatment plant to prevent untreated sewage from entering the river, benefiting over 417,000 people across 33 colonies and 14 villages. DJB also cleared consultancy services for the Water Master Plan 2051.
