The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is organizing its first-ever Green Expo, scheduled for February 14 and 15 at Baansera Park. This event marks a significant step towards promoting people-centric planning in Indian cities. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena is slated to inaugurate the two-day summit.
The expo will convene senior policy makers and development leaders to discuss transitioning urban development models from expansion-led strategies to people-centric approaches. Key urban challenges such as extreme heat, flood resilience, and nature-based infrastructure will be addressed.
Discussions will also delve into innovative financing for green cities, including CSR initiatives and public-private partnerships. The DDA is formalizing collaborations with national institutions like the National Medicinal Plants Board, National School of Drama, Delhi University, World Wide Fund for Nature, and Delhi Technological University to enhance herbal gardens, community theatre, ecological research, and sustainability efforts across Delhi.
A special session will highlight 'Building Climate-Ready Cities Through Nature-Based Infrastructure,' examining the role of urban forests and biodiversity corridors. Environmental advocates Swami Prem Parivartan and Ramveer Tanwar will discuss community engagement in restoring urban ecosystems. Another focus is 'Responding to Urban Heat: Policy, Planning, and Public Health'.
