11 Apr
Summary
- New Delhi EV Policy 2026 proposes banning new petrol two-wheelers from 2028.
- CNG auto-rickshaw registrations will cease starting in 2027.
- Hybrid cars will receive a 50% road tax and registration fee exemption.

The Delhi government has released its Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 for public consultation, proposing significant changes to the city's transport landscape. A key proposal includes the phasing out of new internal combustion engine two-wheeler registrations starting April 2028, allowing only electric models thereafter. Additionally, new CNG auto-rickshaw registrations will be prohibited from 2027 onwards.
In a notable shift, the policy introduces incentives for strong hybrid vehicles for the first time. Those priced up to ₹30 lakh will receive a 50% exemption on road tax and registration fees. Electric vehicles, meanwhile, will continue to benefit from full exemptions on these charges.
The policy also outlines purchase incentives structured by battery capacity for electric two-wheelers and provides significant budgetary allocations. Over ₹1,718 crore is earmarked for scrapping incentives, ₹1,236.25 crore for purchase incentives, and ₹1,000 crore for charging infrastructure, aiming for a cleaner transport system by March 31, 2030.
