An expert committee has been formed by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to devise strategies against vehicular emissions contributing to Delhi-NCR's air pollution. This 15-member body, comprising leading academicians and specialists, will focus on reducing particulate matter and gaseous pollutants from vehicles.
The committee's mandate includes reviewing current policies like BS norms and fuel efficiency standards. It will assess segment-wise emission contributions and exposure risks, aiming to propose regulatory measures for emission reduction and examine the readiness for electric vehicle transitions.
Chaired by Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala, the committee's first meeting is scheduled for December 15. Its formation is anticipated to drive evidence-based policies for improved air quality and public health in the region, as Delhi's air quality is predicted to worsen.
