Defence Colony Faces Foul Water Crisis

Defence Colony in Delhi is grappling with a serious water contamination issue, affecting dozens of households in blocks C and D. Residents have reported receiving muddy and foul-smelling water through the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) network for the past three days. This has compelled affected families to buy water for all their daily needs.

Concerns about a public health crisis are growing, as some residents are receiving black water mixed with sewage. The DJB has stated that officials are in contact with the residents' welfare association to gather details and will conduct checks during morning supply hours to implement corrective measures.

Officials familiar with the matter attribute the contamination to Delhi's recent severe water shortage, which led to low pressure in the pipelines. This shortfall allows sewage to mix with drinking water, especially where supply lines are old and leaky. The use of pressure pumps by some households further exacerbates the issue by drawing in contaminated water.

Elderly residents are particularly worried about the health implications of consuming contaminated water, with some resorting to filtering and boiling it. The local residents' welfare association has highlighted that the area's pipelines are at least six decades old and require urgent replacement to prevent further contamination incidents.
