4 Jun
Summary
- Decathlon offers cash or gift cards for returned used tents.
- The initiative aims to reduce festival waste and landfill.
- Returned tents in good condition will be resold.
- The offer is valid until September 6.

Decathlon has launched a new initiative this summer, the 'Tent Pledge,' to combat festival tent waste. Customers can return their used Quechua-brand tents after an event to receive cash refunds or gift cards. Depending on the tent's condition, refunds can be up to 50% of the original purchase price, while a gift card can be equivalent to 100% of the value.
This offer is valid until September 6 and requires customers to be Decathlon members. The campaign addresses the significant issue of festival waste, with UK festivals reportedly generating approximately 25,800 tonnes of waste annually. A survey indicated that over half of festival-goers view tents as disposable, leading to an estimated 250,000 tents abandoned yearly.
Decathlon hopes this pledge will shift consumer behavior and reduce landfill waste. Tents returned in good condition will be processed through Decathlon's Second Life program, where they will be cleaned and resold. This initiative encourages the circulation of valuable materials and gives products a second life, offering a financial incentive for customers to participate.
