DDA Bans Plastic Bottles at Sports Complexes
5 Oct
Summary
- Single-use plastic bottles banned at DDA sports complexes.
- 2.5 tonnes of waste collected from sporting facilities.
- Three initiatives launched to improve park cleanliness.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has implemented a ban on single-use plastic bottles at its sports complexes as part of the ongoing 'Swachhata Hi Seva' cleanliness campaign. This initiative, which began on September 17th and is set to continue for a month, aims to enhance sanitation across parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities.
So far, approximately 2.5 tonnes of waste have been collected from various sporting venues. To support these efforts, DDA has installed water dispensers, new twin bins for waste segregation, and signage promoting anti-littering practices. The campaign is being conducted under the guidance of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Three specific initiatives are in place to bolster cleanliness: 'Bin Before Overflow' ensures regular emptying of dustbins, 'Capital's Promise' focuses on public toilet maintenance, and 'Children to the Green' engages youth in environmental activities. Resident welfare associations and community members are actively participating in this drive.
