Cow Dung Chaos: Dairy Owners Face FIRs for Polluting Drains
24 Aug
Summary
- Four dairy owners booked for dumping cow dung into drains.
- FIRs registered for fouling water and violating drainage acts.
- Action follows review of Buddha Nullah rejuvenation project.

Four dairy owners in Haibowal Dairy Complex have been booked by police for disposing of cow dung into local drains. These drains eventually lead to the effluent treatment plant, causing pollution issues. Two First Information Reports (FIRs) were officially registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act.
The legal action was initiated following a complaint from a junior engineer of the municipal corporation's operations and maintenance cell. This development occurred shortly after a review meeting for the Buddha Nullah rejuvenation project, where authorities were directed to take stringent action against polluters.
Previously, in July, the municipal corporation had filed an FIR against 13 dairy owners for violating pollution norms. The Haibowal Dairy Complex persistently faces problems with wastewater and cow dung covering its streets due to overflowing drains, exacerbated by excessive water discharge from dairy units.
