The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has reported to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that open dumping at the Vellalore dump yard ceased on December 22, 2025. The corporation has committed to clearing the remaining legacy waste by October 2026, as part of its compliance report filed on January 12.

Phase 2 of the bio-mining project at Vellalore has progressed, though revised processing targets face challenges. Identified for clearance is 7,94,139 metric tonnes of legacy waste across 84.62 acres. Operations began on March 6, 2025, with a contractually stipulated completion by April 2027.

As of December 31, 2025, over 2.2 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste were processed, yielding significant recovered fractions. Currently, around 5,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel are stored at the site. The NGT has requested a six-week assessment report from environmental boards.
