Many retirees consider warm-weather locales, but escalating climate change is making popular Sun Belt destinations increasingly hazardous. The contiguous U.S. experienced its hottest summer on record recently, with extreme weather events responsible for widespread destruction. Southwestern cities, despite these risks, remain top retirement choices.

These areas, particularly Texas, Florida, and California, have absorbed significant natural disaster costs.
