DC Cherry Blossoms: Peak Bloom Near!
20 Mar
Summary
- Washington DC's Tidal Basin blossoms are nearing peak bloom.
- NYC's Brooklyn Botanic Garden trees will bloom late next week.
- Weather shifts did not harm early cherry blossom buds.

The arrival of spring is marked by the imminent blooming of cherry blossoms across several U.S. cities. In Washington, D.C., the National Mall's 3,800 cherry trees around the Tidal Basin are on the cusp of their annual display. As of March 20, 2026, the blossoms were in an early stage but expected to show noticeable color over the weekend, with peak bloom predicted between March 29 and April 1. Despite a recent significant temperature swing, the delicate buds are reported to be intact.
Further north, New York City's Brooklyn Botanic Garden is also anticipating its vibrant floral event. The garden's 230 cherry blossom trees, representing 50 species, are expected to begin flowering at the end of next week. Horticulture Director Shauna Moore confirmed that approximately 150 trees are being closely monitored through a dedicated bloom tracker.
