The Cherlapalli Lake Restoration and Development Project commenced with a Bhumi Pooja ceremony on Tuesday. This initiative is a collaboration between the Telangana Prisons Department and HYDRAA, with financial backing from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
The project involves cleaning the lake, restoring its inlet channel, and strengthening the embankment. Solar lighting will be installed, and the lake premises have been declared a plastic-free zone. The restored lake will provide water for nearby colonies, agriculture, and prison activities.
Prison inmates from the Open Air Prison will participate in the restoration, acquiring vocational skills and fostering self-esteem. The Telangana Prisons Department announced that CCTV cameras will be installed for continuous monitoring and protection, integrated with Cherlapalli Central Prison.
